Year Founded: 2003
Ownership: Private

Company Overview:
Juvaris BioTherapeutics is a new biotechnology company that is presently developing novel proprietary active immunotherapeutic vaccines, which involve the activation of the patient’s own immune system to combat disease as opposed to passive immunotherapy that uses the administration of preformed monoclonal antibodies.

The company is developing therapeutic vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases by using its novel technology platform based on cationic lipids and non-coding DNA complexes. These agents are capable of augmenting the regulatory function of the immune response at a range that is a step above currently comparable technology platforms of similar design.

Products and Services:
The Juvaris technology platforms, JuvImmune and JuvaVax, are specially designed to deal with complex immunotherapeutic medical needs, in which the presence of efficient and broadly effective therapeutic immunostimulants can become essential components to immune system support and augmentation within the context of an ongoing disease.

Juvaris' proprietary technology platform is broad-based with wide ranging human and veterinary applications in the treatment and prevention of cancers as well as bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. The following is a summary of the major markets with significant unmet clinical needs where Juvaris technologies are believed applicable:

Juvaris is interested in pursuing therapeutic vaccine development in the area of oncology, emphasizing the most pervasive forms of cancer. Juvaris intends to pursue partnerships to develop market opportunities in these areas.

Another point of emphasis for Juvaris is developing effective immunotherapeutics to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Acute and chronic infections, associated with antibiotic-resistant strains of staphylococcus, streptococci and enterococci, provide tremendous market opportunity to provide effective new treatments.

Juvaris BioTherapeutics believes that its proprietary technology, when fully developed, will offer unique product candidates in the anti-infectives marketplace created for the treatment of herpes and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) related infections. Because of the shear financial and marketing potential invested in the treatment of these particular diseases each year, Juvaris management is confident that pursuing projects in this area will mean amazing opportunities for growth. In order to initiate many of these types of development endeavors, the company will be seeking aid from outside sources like grants and/or collaborative agreements.

Fungal and parasitic infections are growing problem in many parts of the world. For Juvaris, this alarming trend has presented a key opportunity to tackle this problem and provide treatment possibilities in order to control this medical problem. Juvaris is currently evaluating market potential in this area. These projects will be supported through grants or co-development agreements with other pharmaceutical companies.

In terms of biodefense programs, Juvaris BioTherapeutics currently has begun negations with a number of government agencies that are prepared to test both JuvImmune and JuvaVax in a wide variety of biowarfare animal models.

Juvaris is also involved in the development of animal immunotherapeutic treatments, seeking to provide coverage for an area where there are currently few effective treatments for many of the cancers and infectious diseases afflicting household pets. Juvaris technology has provided viable and effective treatment options regarding the treatment of large-animal spontaneous tumors.
