Applera Corporation consists of two businesses: Applied Biosystems Group and Celera Genomics Group. The combined vision of the two companies is the desire to improve human health and society by understanding and applying the power of biology to develop breakthrough research technologies and diagnostic products. These two businesses provide opportunities to scientists and health care professionals who want to be involved with cutting edge technological advancements that are being made in an effort diagnose and treat diseases. Each of the businesses is allowed by parent company Applera to focus on individual core strengths and operations by providing support services in areas like technology, finance, information, as well as human resources and communications.

Products and Services: |
Each of these two companies has its own areas of expertise and product emphasis which allows Applera to have a broader range of services and wider coverage of possible medical and life science industries and associated markets.
The Applied Biosystems Group is focused on the development and marketing of instrument-based systems, consumables, software, and services that will be used by the life science industry, research community with some commercial applications as well.
Pharmaceutical research and development: DNA and RNA analysis equipment, small molecule and protein analysis tools and systems.
Applied Market applications: Applied Biosystems offers products and services that can be used or applied to such as the fields as: human identity testing (forensic and paternity testing); biosecurity, which refers to products needed in response to the threat of biological terrorism and other malicious, accidental, and natural biological dangers; as well as safety and quality testing (food and environmental testing procedures).
The Celera Genomics Group deals specifically with the field of molecular diagnostics and it utilizes proprietary genomics and proteomics research platforms to identify and validate novel diagnostic markers. They currently have diagnostic products in different development phases that are derived from these markers and other known markers.
The company has continued to maintain an important and lucrative collaborative alliance with Abbott Laboratories as the two companies continue to develop and then commercialize molecular diagnostic products. Celera Genomics has branched out beyond this partnership with Abbott to design further diagnostic products outside which they hope to market and profit from. Using the research technologies associated with both genomics and proteomics, Celera Genomics is also involved in locating and confirming the findings related to multiple therapeutic targets and look for collaborators who may be interested in creating therapeutic products based on these newly discovered targets.
