Products and Services: |
Allergy Therapeutics has services in development for the following two areas: novel therapeutic vaccines and continued improvement of the characteristics of existing products. Furthermore, the company has two categories of vaccines: subcutaneous, administered by injection and sublingual, which is taken orally. For the intravenous vaccines, part of the proposed Pollinex Quattro, that Allergy Therapeutics is developing, it is hoped that the products will be easier and safer to use by the addition of the MPL in the treatment of patients suffering from various pollen allergies Most of their products are based on allergoid, (modified allergens) tyrosine and MPL adjuvant.
* Allergoids are purified allergen extracts which have been chemically treated and used to improve the efficacy of allergy vaccination. * L-tyrosine is a natural amino acid that the company has begun to incorporate in its various vaccine formulations. AT’s decision to add this compound to its formulations was spurred on by the concept of slow-release depot formulations for allergy vaccines, and associated affects like marked increases in the safety profile as well as the enhancement of the efficacy-associated immunological changes. L-tyrosine was offered as a replacement for the traditional compound, aluminum hydroxide (alum). * MPL Adjuvant, licensed from U.S. biotech company, Corixa, it is used in the development of various vaccines. The addition of MPL technology could lead to a step-change in the product profile, with more efficacious formulations leading firstly to fewer injections in subcutaneous therapies and later to more effective sub-lingual formulations. The convenience of these formulations means that patients will require fewer or perhaps no injections and might therefore be more willing to consider this form of therapy. A reduction in the need to attend clinics could be important both to healthcare providers and payers and also to the employers of allergy sufferers. * MPL and tyrosine synergy By combining the two, the resultant synergistic relationship between the two compounds amplifies the possible benefits of their use in certain vaccine formulations.
