Bioinformatics Scientist II - 99694

Job Description:
SAIC-Frederick, Inc. and our Core Genotyping Facility are seeking a motivated bioinformatics scientist to provide scientific and technical support in efforts to support the generation, analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data. The applicant will be responsible for establishing and maintaining data processing, QC, analytic, and SNP discovery pipelines for data from next-generation sequencing technology, and developing new computational methodologies for the use of this data to address critical biological questions.
Skills Required:
REQUIRED SKILLS: Possession of a Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university appropriate to biomedical research, or eight (8) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.

In addition to education requirements, minimum of 2 years of competent, innovative research experience beyond doctoral training in a related field of specialty. Proficiency in developing test or production methods or protocols in an applied area; demonstrated ability to manage a production operation or a segment of a specialized service area. Expert knowledge in bioinformatics, computational analyses of sequence data, genetics/genomics (specifically haplotype construction and analysis) and quality control/quality assurance analyses is necessary.
Qualifications:
Hands-on experience in processing and assembling large scale sequencing data, polymorphism discovery, and genetic analysis is essential. In addition, experience in using and developing sequence analysis and SNP discovery tools/pipelines, scientific programming skills with Java, C/C++, Perl, and Python. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
